3 Junior Researchers in Economics
The Research Programs “Fiscal Federalism” (Heads: Albert Solé-Ollé & Núria Bosch-Roca) and “Cities and Innovation” (Heads: Prof. Elisabet Viladecans-Marsal & Prof. José García-Quevedo) at the Barcelona Institute of Economics (IEB) are seeking 3 junior researchers in economics. The concrete tasks associated to the positions are: (i) Writing and publishing her own research papers; (ii) Support in the management of the IEB’s events and publications; (iii) A limited amount of teaching.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. and well-founded knowledge of micro-economics and applied econometrics. All applicants with an economics background will be considered, but we will give priority to applicants working in the following fields: (i) Fiscal Federalism; (ii) Political Economy; (iii) Economics of Taxation; (iv) Urban Economics; (v) Economics of Innovation.
Also, a good knowledge of quantitative methods and management skills are required. Adequate experience in research and/or teaching is an advantage. Fluency in English is required, and some knowledge of Spanish is welcome.
The position is for 3 years. The salary is 2,000 euro/month, net of taxes and employee social security contributions.

Research Fellowship Opportunity at the Centre for Policy Development
The Centre for Policy Development is pleased to announce we are seeking applications for a new Sustainable Economy Fellowship. The fellowship is generously sponsored by Slater and Gordon and is offered through Centre for Policy Development's new Sustainable Economy Program which aims to research and develop options for Australia to make a rapid transition to an economy that works within environmental limits and is socially sustainable.
The successful applicant will:
- Receive $10,000 financial support to work on a mutually agreed research project over a period of 3 – 6 months
- Have access to the CPD office and resources for the period of the fellowship
- Have her/his research published as a CPD paper and launched at a high profile public event
- Receive intensive assistance in placing relevant opinion pieces in media outlets
- Receive media training if required
- Be mentored by leading experts in the field.
We are looking for someone prepared to imagine what a truly sustainable Australia might look like - and to research the policy ideas that can help us get there. This fellowship is suited to PhD/masters students or early-career researchers with an interest in connecting their work to current Australian policy debates.

Research Fellow (Fixed Term, 2 years)
Aston Business School invites applications for a Research Fellow to work in the Research Centre ACCIS: ‘Aston Centre for Critical Infrastructure & Services’ on topics related to economic regulation, and particularly the application of econometric models as well as productivity and efficiency measurement techniques to the analysis of infrastructure industries.
You will be responsible for conducting robust econometric analysis, preparing working papers and submissions to scholarly journals, and contributing to the preparation of research grants. You will ideally have a PhD or be close to submitting a PhD thesis in economics or a related discipline. You should be able to demonstrate extensive understanding of economic theory and its application to regulatory issues, and must have demonstrable experience in econometric analysis. Knowledge of appropriate econometric software such as Stata and Limdep is desirable. Good presentation and report writing skills are essential along with a proven ability of meeting deadlines. You will ideally also have some knowledge about the grant applications process.

UNDP – Asia Pacific Human Development Academic Fellowship
The objective of the Academic Fellowship is to encourage young Ph.D. students from the Asia Pacifific region to analyse critical development issues from a human development perspective, contributing to development theory, applications and policies. ARC Asia Pacific Futures Research Network UPDATE Japan-Korea Node
Japan Studies - Workshop Opportunity for Postgraduate/Early Career Researchers (applications closing 14 Aug 09).
The Japan–Korea Node of the Asia Pacific Futures Research Network (APFRN) is organising a Postgraduate/ECR workshop in conjunction with its network project titled “Japan: Descending Asian Giant?” Applications are invited from PhD and ECRs researching contemporary Japan for a fully funded place (airfare and accommodation in Adelaide) to attend this workshop being held at the University of Adelaide between Monday 23rd & Tuesday 24th November 2009.
